What Is a Billing Descriptor?
The name that appears next to a charge on your bank or credit card statement is called a billing descriptor. It helps identify the product or purchase associated with a charge.
The examples in this article apply to purchases billed directly by Age of Learning.
If you subscribed through the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, Samsung Galaxy Store, Amazon Appstore, or another third-party app store, the charge on your statement may appear differently because your payment was processed through that store.
Billing Descriptors for Age of Learning Purchases
Depending on when and how your purchase was made, you may see either a general billing descriptor or one that identifies a specific product or subscription.
The following billing descriptors may appear on your bank or credit card statement.
| Billing Descriptor | What It Means | Learn More |
|---|---|---|
| ABCMOUSE | ABCmouse monthly subscription (or other Age of Learning purchases) | ABCmouse Subscription Pricing Options |
| ABCM ANNUAL | ABCmouse annual subscription (renews) | Understanding Charges |
| ABCM 6MONTH | ABCmouse six-month subscription (renews) | Understanding Charges |
| ABCM CENTER | Assessment Center subscription (renews) | About the Assessment Center |
| ABCM TUTOR | Tutoring session (one-time purchase) | Assessment Center Tutoring |
| ADV ACADEMY | Adventure Academy subscription (renews) | AdventureAcademy.com |
| ABCM SHOP | Merchandise (one-time purchase) | ABCmouse Shop |
| ABCM GIFT | Gift card (one-time purchase) | Purchasing Gift Cards and Gift Codes |
| ABCM STARTER | ABCmouse Starter Pack (one-time purchase) |
Note: Some financial institutions may shorten, abbreviate, or format billing descriptors differently. App store billing is controlled by the app store. The wording on your statement may not exactly match the examples shown above.
The following screenshot shows descriptors highlighted for an Assessment Center subscription and an ABCmouse Annual subscription.
Note: If you see a charge that's slightly higher than the listed price, that's because in some states, taxes are required to be added to the purchase price. In the example above: $39.99 + 7% tax = $42.79.
Why Your Billing Descriptor May Look Different
It's normal for billing descriptors to vary.
For example:
- Multiple purchases may display the general descriptor ABCMOUSE even if they are for different products.
- Other purchases may display a more specific descriptor, such as ABCM ANNUAL, ABCM CENTER, or ADV ACADEMY.
- Your bank or credit card company may display an abbreviated version of the billing descriptor.
- If you subscribed through an app store (Google Play, Apple App Store, Amazon Appstore, Samsung App Store), your statement may show a billing descriptor provided by that store instead of an Age of Learning billing descriptors discussed here.
These differences do not necessarily indicate a problem with your purchase.
Why You May See Multiple Charges
Seeing more than one Age of Learning charge does not mean you've been charged twice for the same purchase.
You may see multiple charges if you:
- Purchased more than one subscription.
- Added optional subscriptions or services, such as Assessment Center or Adventure Academy.
- Purchased an annual or six-month subscription after initially selecting a monthly plan.
- Have subscriptions associated with different email addresses.
You may also notice that some charges display ABCMOUSE, while others display a more specific billing descriptors. In the following screenshot, both charges say ABCMOUSE. The first one for $45.00 is for an Annual subscription to ABCmouse, and the second one for $39.99 is for an Annual subscription to Assessment Center.
