One thing that most kids like to do first in ABCmouse is to add their name to the program instead of the default "Friend" profile that you'll see in the upper-left. ABCmouse allows parents to create up to three child profiles under a single subscription.
When you complete your child's profile, ABCmouse is better able to offer personalized learning activities and lessons suited to your child based on the birth date you enter (and you won't need to update the profile with a new age next year since we have the birth year).
Click the Friend icon and select Settings from the bottom of the side panel to add your first child profile under Edit Child Profiles. If you need to add another child, you can do so at any time from the same Settings area of the app.

-
Click on the profile icon in the upper-left corner.
- Tap Settings or the gear icon (⚙️) located in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
- If prompted, enter your birth year (e.g., 1995) to proceed.
- Click the + Add icon to begin adding a new profile.
- On the Add Child screen, enter your child's first name, select the month and year for their birthday, and click Done to save the child's birthday.
Note: Entering the correct birth date helps the program determine activity recommendations based on age (and knowing the birthday helps the program stay updated as the child grows). To optimize your child's Learning Path levels for Reading and Math, be sure to set a grade level for each Learning Path, as well.
There is a sound icon to the right of the Child's Name field. Click the icon if you want to hear how your child's name will be pronounced in the program.
Please note: ABCmouse is trained to pronounce a wide range of names but may not be able to pronounce all names or match your child's preferred name pronunciation. We are not able to update name pronunciations in the program at this time.
- You will see a default/placeholder profile icon for your child at this point (highlighted below). Please note that this icon cannot be changed from the Settings section. Your child will need to go to the My World section of ABCmouse to build their own Avatar.
- Press Save to complete the process of adding a child profile to your ABCmouse account.
Your new child profile is now added and ready to use! Now's a great time to create an Avatar for this new child profile.
