My Hamster Section in ABCmouse Classic

The My Hamster section allows children to care for a virtual hamster, providing an interactive and fun way to learn responsibility. Kids can feed, play with, and customize their hamster’s habitat while earning rewards. This article explains how to access and interact with the My Hamster feature.

The My Hamster section can be found in the About Me section. Multiple hamsters can be owned and accessed in this area. Each hamster can be taken care of by being fed and given water to drink.

What your child can do in My Hamster

• Watch the hamster explore: The hamster moves around the cage and interacts with toys and objects automatically. This helps children learn by observing animal behavior in a playful way.

• Give it treats: Children can tap on the treat bag to give their hamster a snack. Treats disappear after they are used.

• Clean the cage: Tap the soap bottle to start a quick mini-game where your child can help clean the hamster's cage. This reinforces responsibility and care.

• Customize the cage: Use the pencil icon to change the color and layout of the cage and add new decorations.

• Use special items: Some seasonal or earned items can be added to the cage for more variety and fun.

💡 Note: Items used in the My Hamster section do not affect Learning Path progress or rewards.

Can my child play activities in the My Hamster section?

Yes! Your child can play hamster-themed activities in the bottom-right corner of the My Hamster section. Here’s how:

1. Tap the Activities icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
   
   
   
    

2. This opens the Hamster Activities screen, where your child can choose from:

   • Coloring pages

   • Games

   • Puzzles

   • Printable sheets
     
     
     
     
      

3. For example, if your child selects Paint-by-Letters: Hamster, they’ll have the option to:

   • Play the activity

   • Change the level at the top of the screen
     
     
     
     
      

4. When the activity is complete, tap Done.
   
   
   
    

5. Your child will automatically earn tickets and see options to:

   • Save their completed work

   • Print it

   • Make it into a puzzle

   • Or tap Continue to return to the My Hamster section

These activities are just for fun and are separate from the Learning Path.



 

How many hamsters can my child add?

Your child can have 3 hamsters in each maze. 

To add a hamster:

1. Tap the hamster icon in the center of the screen.
   
   
   
   
    

2. This will switch the inventory area to show all available hamsters that your child can add.
   
   
   
   
    

3. If a hamster is available, drag it out into the maze to add it.
   
   
    

4. If there are no more available hamsters, tap the Buy Items icon to purchase additional ones using in-game tickets.
   
   
   
    

5. This opens the store, where your child can purchase a new hamster using tickets. If your child chooses a hamster they already own, a message will appear:

   “You already have one of these. Are you sure you want to buy another?”

   Your child can still buy duplicates if they choose.

   
   
   
    

6. After purchase, a “Purchase Complete” screen will appear with the message:

   “You’ve purchased 1 new item!”

   Your child can then tap “Go to My Hamster” to return to the maze or “Continue Shopping” to stay in the store.
   
   

Can my child add more mazes?

Yes! Additional mazes can be purchased within the app.

Follow the steps below to switch mazes or purchase a new one:

1. Tap the location icon in the top right corner of the My Hamster screen.
   
   
   
    

2. Use the up and down arrows that appear to browse the available maze.
   
   
   
    

3. If you’ve already purchased a maze, it will be named Hamster Maze 1 (or the next number for additional mazes).
   
   
   
   
   
   
    

4. When you want a new maze you want, tap the Buy Now button.
   
   
   
    

5. The cost will be shown in in-game tickets (e.g., 100 tickets). Confirm the purchase to add the new maze.
   
   
   

Can we buy more tubes or cages?

1. Locate the My Hamster inventory menu on the side of the screen.
   
   
   
    

2. Inside the inventory, tap Go Shopping.
   
   
   
    

3. You will enter the Hamster Store, where you can browse and purchase new tubes, cages, and decorations.
   
   

What is the Facts button?

This area will state fun facts about hamsters. 



 

How can my child name their hamster?

1. Select the About Me. 
   
   
    
2. Go to the My Hamster section. 
   
   
    
3. Tap on the hamster you wish to rename.
   
   
   
    
4. Double-click the name of the hamster until it is highlighted.
   
   
   
    
5. Press the green check mark once you have your new name for your hamster, and press the X icon in the upper corner of the pop-up to close it.
   
   
    
6. You’ll be taken back to the hamster cage, where you’ll see your hamster with its updated name.
