Parents can change microphone permission for Sound It Out after the initial permission decision. Microphone settings are managed per device, so you can update the setting for a specific device without changing the setting on other devices.
Change the microphone setting
- Open the ABCmouse Parent Center.
- Locate the microphone permission setting for the device you want to update.
- Change the microphone permission to either allow or deny.
- Save or confirm the change, if prompted.
The updated setting applies to Sound It Out activities on that device.
Note: Microphone permission is device-specific. If your child uses Sound It Out on another device, you may need to set the microphone permission separately on that device.
What happens if I deny microphone access?
Your child can continue playing Sound It Out even when microphone access is denied. However, ABCmouse will not be able to hear or register the words your child says.
What happens when microphone access is allowed?
When microphone access is allowed, Sound It Out listens while your child says the target word. Each attempt listens for up to 20 seconds, or up to 6 seconds after sound is detected.
If no sound is detected, ABCmouse prompts your child to try again and restarts the listening process.
Need help with microphone access?
If you are having trouble getting the microphone to work on a specific device, please contact ABCmouse Support. Do not attempt to troubleshoot microphone access within the activity.
