How to Get Started with ABCmouse Basic
-
Download the ABCmouse app by opening the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, Amazon Appstore, or Samsung Galaxy Store on your device. Search for “ABCmouse” (make sure it says "Kids Learning Game" and not "Classic"). Tap Install (Google Play), Get (App Store) or Download (Amazon Appstore). Then click to open the app.
- After you open the ABCmouse app, you will be asked to choose your child's age. Tap the age and click the Continue button.
- Click on the Basic Access box at the bottom of the screen (not the Try It Free button) to get started with our 100% free limited version of ABCmouse, which offers a selection of free daily activities with no payment information needed, so you never have to worry about charges. You can upgrade to Premium for unlimited learning and other special features at any time.
Note: The Try It Free button is for a 30-day trial of ABCmouse Premium, which will convert to a paid subscription after 30 days, so please choose Basic Access if you do not want to start a subscription yet.
- You should now be on the home screen for ABCmouse Basic and your child can start playing! Click here to see what's included with Basic.
You'll see a Try it FREE for 30 days! button on top that you can click if you ever want to upgrade to a full Premium subscription. You'll have the option of a monthly or annual subscription.
- One thing that most kids like to do first is to add their name to the program instead of the default "Friend" profile that you'll see in the upper-left. Click that icon and select Settings from the bottom of the side panel.
- Click on the Friend icon to create a personalized child profile.
- Add you child's name, birthday (month and year), and grade levels for Reading and Math. Choose what you think their abilities are if you think they are different than their actual grade in school, and you can select different levels for Reading and Math if they are better at one than the other. Clic Save when done.
- So your child can fully personalize their Avatar, open the profile menu again (it should now say your child's name instead of Friend) and click on the edit (pencil) icon to open our Avatar Builder.
You can also go to My World and click on the Avatar there to open the Avatar Builder.
- Click through all the options available so your child can create their very own Avatar (you can remind them if they aren't sure what they want that they can come back anytime to change the look again).
-
One last tip to help your child get started is to look through the My World section of the app before diving into the learning activities.
My World gives your child full access to immersive environments including:
Pet Town
Safari
Aquarium
Hamster
Bot Beats
Monster Stacking
There are no time limits on exploration, but structured activities inside these areas may count toward the 10 daily activity limit that applies to ABCmouse Basic.
