The Assessment Center is now available in the ABCmouse app for Premium users who want extra support in evaluating their child’s learning. You can purchase the Assessment Center as an add-on during the ABCmouse sign-up process or from the ABCmouse app as shown below. In each case, the Assessment Center will be an additional subscription charge.
Assessments are available for Preschool, Pre-K, Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade. For the younger children, a parent or caregiver should sit with the child and help as directed by the assessment.

Types of Assessments
There are two types of Assessments:
Full Assessments measure foundational skills across a broader range. Full Assessments are available for Preschool, Prekindergarten, and Kindergarten. Because 1st and 2nd Grade test a much greater number of skills, there is not a single Full Assessment for those grades, only individual skill assessments.
- Individual Skill Assessments target specific learning areas for more focused evaluation. For Preschool, Prekindergarten, and Kindergarten, you will have a choice to take individual skill assessments or a Full Assessment for the whole grade level. 1st and 2nd grades will only have individual skill options.
Guided vs. Independent Assessments
Icons next to each assessment indicate whether:
It’s a Guided Assessment, to be done with your help.
It’s an Independent Assessment, which your child can complete on their own.
How Parents Can View and Choose Assessment Options
To view and select between Guided and Independent assessments:
Tap the arrow next to the assessment level you’re using (Preschool, Pre-K, or Kindergarten).
Tap the arrow next to Individual Skills Assessments.
-
Scroll through the list of skills—each will be labelled Guided or Independent.
Note: Selecting Continue on the full assessment will include both Guided and Independent items.
Taking an Assessment
If your child doesn’t know an answer, select “No Response.”
During Independent Assessments, your child can select “I Don’t Know.”
For accurate results, avoid coaching your child while they answer.
Completing an Assessment
Assessments do not need to be completed in one sitting.
Responses are saved after each question, so your child can pick up where they left off.
Understanding Assessment Results
After taking the Assessment you will see a screen with the percentage of correct answers (color coded for proficiency), recommended activities, and a button to Test Again.
Clicking See Report will show you your child's proficiency level in this area, the number of correct answers, and options to see a line or bar graph for the results. The line graph is a great way to visualize progress if you have tested multiple times.
After viewing the results, your child can either:
Take the next recommended assessment (if available).
Start playing the recommended learning activities.
- Test again
If your child scores 100%, no activities will be recommended for that skill.
