ABCmouse Classic student codes provided by schools typically grant access to a limited version of the platform, focusing on classroom-aligned content. Some features available to paid subscribers may not be included. This article explains the differences between student access and full subscriptions and provides troubleshooting steps for common issues.
Free Classroom-Linked Accounts
Teachers may send an invitation for you to activate a free Classroom-Linked ABCmouse Classic account. These free accounts do not provide full access to ABCmouse Classic; rather, students will only have access to lessons that the teacher assigns to them. These invitations will clearly say that accounts are free. Codes for Classroom-Linked accounts will always be 12 capital letters.
Troubleshooting Student Code Issues
Step 1: Confirm You Redeemed the Code Correctly
Parents must redeem the student code at www.ABCmouse.com/redeem to properly activate a Classroom-Linked account. If this step is missed, the student will not be linked to their teacher’s classroom.
To check if the code was redeemed:
- Navigate to the My Lessons page in the student’s profile.
- If there are teacher-assigned lessons available, the code was redeemed successfully.
- If no lessons appear, it does not necessarily mean the code was not redeemed. The teacher may not have assigned any lessons yet.
- To confirm, try redeeming the code again at www.ABCmouse.com/redeem.
- If the code has already been claimed, a message will indicate that the code was previously redeemed.
Step 2: Redeem the Student Code Again
If the student is not connected to the class, follow these steps:
- Go to www.ABCmouse.com/redeem.
- Enter the student code provided by the teacher.
- Follow the prompts to create or link an account.
Step 3: Check "My Lessons" in the Student’s Profile
If the code was successfully redeemed, students should have access to assigned lessons through the My Lessons folder. This can be found in the About Me area of the app or at the top of the homepage.
For classroom-linked accounts, access is limited to teacher-assigned lessons. If additional features are desired, families can upgrade to a full membership by clicking on any Members Only section.
Important Notes
- ABCmouse Classic Teacher accounts used at school and associated limited Classroom-Linked accounts are separate from a paid family subscription at home.
- Applying a student's classroom code to an existing account does not overwrite a paid subscription. If a family already has a paid ABCmouse Classic subscription, its regular billing will continue.
- Families without a paid ABCmouse Classic subscription can upgrade to a full-access subscription but are not required to do so to access the lessons assigned by the teacher.
Step 4: Verify the Teacher’s Classroom Settings
Teachers can check if a student has successfully redeemed a code by:
- Logging into their ABCmouse Classic teacher account.
- Navigating to the Send Lessons Home page.
- Reviewing the list of students:
- Connected students: The student has successfully redeemed the code, and their name will appear in the list of connected students. Once connected, the teacher will no longer be able to see the original invitation letter.
- Not connected students: If the student has not redeemed the code, their name will appear under the list of students who are not connected. Teachers can resend the invitation letter, which will include the student code.
Please note that teachers cannot view the email address the parent used to redeem the code. For privacy reasons, it is the parent’s responsibility to keep track of their login information.
Step 5: Contact ABCmouse Classic Support
If the issue persists, parents or teachers can contact ABCmouse Classic Customer Support for assistance. Be prepared to provide the student code and account details to expedite troubleshooting.
