Using ABCmouse Classic
How do I use ABCmouse Classic at my library?
When you are in any library that offers our free ABCmouse for Libraries service, simply open your web browser and go to http://www.abcmouse.com/library_account.
Can I use the new ABCmouse app in the library?
Not yet. Our new ABCmouse program is not currently supported from libraries. You can currently use ABCmouse Classic in over 4,500 libraries in the U.S. and Canada.
Can I use my ABCmouse Classic Library account at home?
Some libraries allow library card holders to access ABCmouse Classic from home, as well as from anywhere else you have access to the Internet. If your library provides this service, you will need to create a family account, which will then allow you to track the progress of up to three children in your household.
You can either call your library or visit their website to see if they offer our ABCmouse Home Access for Libraries service. They may have two listings for ABCmouse Classic on their website—one listing for in-library access and another listing for home access. When you click the link for home access it will take you to a website where you enter your library card information, after which you will be taken to a page where you will create your login information by entering a valid email address and a password. If you don't have an email address, use your phone number (with no spaces or punctuation) followed by @ABCmouse.com.
Once you've created your family's account, continue through the registration path to create your Parent Profile and one or more Child Profiles by adding basic information and choosing an Avatar. You can have up to three children on your family’s account, and each child will have their own Child Profile.
Can I switch my paid ABCmouse Classic subscription to a library account?
You cannot switch a paid ABCmouse Classic account to a library account, but you can cancel the account you are paying for and check ABCmouse Classic out of your library (if they offer that service) whenever it is available. Keep in mind, if you start using the Library account without cancelling your paid subscription you will continue to be charged. Cancelled subscribers will not be charged for accessing ABCmouse Classic through their library, nor will patrons who have never had a subscription.
Also note that the email address you used to sign up for your paid ABCmouse Classic account will continue to be connected to that account, even if/when you no longer subscribe to it.
When patrons click the ABCmouse Home Access link on a library’s website, and then authenticate with their library card credentials, they will be connected to their existing/previous ABCmouse Classic account after entering their email address. This will occur whether or not they are current subscribers.

I have an ABCmouse Classic account through my library that I have been using at home, but it recently stopped working. What should I do?
There are, of course, some technical reasons why you might have problems with an account you've previously used (you forgot your email or password, you need to update your ABCmouse Classic app or system software, or connection issues with your home wi-fi), but if all that appears to be good and unchanged and you suddenly lost access to your Home Access Account, it may be that your library no longer offers ABCmouse Classic accounts attached to your library card. Depending on your library, you may see a screen saying your account is expired and prompting you to renew or a subscription page for ABCmouse.
If you have lost access and are unable to renew your checkout period, we suggest that you contact your local library or check their website to confirm if they still offer the at-home service. If they no longer offer ABCmouse Home Access, let them know that's a library benefit you counted on and encourage them to bring it back.
In the meantime, you should still be able to access ABCmouse at the library for free. You may also want to sign up for an ABCmouse subscription; an annual subscription is the most cost-effective way to enjoy ABCmouse, and you'll be able to use both the new ABCmouse and the ABCmouse Classic app you previously used. The new ABCmouse also offers a Basic tier with free access to 10 learning activities per day. Compare ABCmouse Basic and Premium plans here.
Can I access the Assessment Center with my ABCmouse Classic account through my library?
If your library offers ABCmouse Home Access, you can also access our independently-validated Assessment Center, which assesses each child’s knowledge and skills and creates customized lessons that are targeted to help improve in specific skill areas.
Does my ABCmouse Classic account created through the library expire?
You will have continuous access to your ABCmouse Classic account as long as your library has a paid contract with us for ABCmouse Home Access.
