Teachers using a free ABCmouse for Teachers subscription in their classroom can easily set up image passcodes for their students to prevent them from inadvertently accessing another student's profile. It's not a "lock," but it's an effective way to keep young students from using the wrong account.
Teachers will have the option to use 2 to 4 images as students' passcode, with the longer ones offering greater security and the shorter ones ease of use, especially for the youngest students.
Once you have enabled this image passcode feature, your students will be required to enter their passcode prior to accessing their profile. You can select a passcode length (from 2 to 4 characters) and have the system generate a default passcode for each student, which can then be printed and handed out.
Please note that your Teacher Dashboard and all Teacher features are only available when using a desktop or laptop computer.
How to Secure Student Profiles with Passcodes
- Go to the Teacher Dashboard.
- Click Student Setting under Classroom Tools.
- At the top of your Class Roster page, lick the Passcode toggle switch and then the Length drop-down to choose 2, 3, or 4 images to use as passcodes.
- Click the Generate button and confirm the passcodes if prompted. You should now see the image passcodes listed for each student below.
- If you want to print out all the passcodes for your own records or to hand out to your students, the Print button (next to the Generate button). Confirm the passcodes by clicking Print from the Print Passcodes pop-up. Continue the printing process as you typically would in your classroom.
The passcodes that you generated will appear next to each of your students' profiles. Make sure to communicate with the each student while in class which picture they would have to select on the Student Login page.
